I write for me. Sometimes, that means no one reads it. Sometimes, as blessedly happened recently, my stuff is so interestingly different that an editor couldn’t help but use it. Next time: who knows? Not changing.
Don't you think you owe it to readers to give them what they want?
No? What an odd take. Read my fic or don't.

Thought For the Day: If A Man Loves the Labour of His Trade, Apart From Any Question of Success or Fame, the Gods Have Called Him
“If a man loves the labour of his trade, apart from any question of success or fame, the gods have called him.” -Robert Louis Stevenson, novelist, essayist, and poet (13 Nov 1850-1894) — Individuals deeply devoted to their professions without consideration for recognition or achievement have found their calling. We should all be this lucky in life. Intrinsic motivation and personal satisfaction…

You should learn how to code...
As a self-taught software engineer, I am a huge advocate for learning how to code. In today's technology-driven world, coding has become an increasingly essential skill, and there are numerous reasons why learning how to code is a great idea.
Firstly, coding offers the opportunity for creativity and innovation. As a coder, you are essentially a creator. You have the power to take an idea and bring it to life using code. The possibilities are endless. Whether it's a mobile app, a website, or a video game, the ability to code provides a unique and exciting way to express your creativity and make a difference in the world.
Secondly, coding offers job security and career advancement. In today's job market, employers are always on the lookout for skilled coders. As the demand for software engineers continues to rise, there is no shortage of job opportunities in the field. Furthermore, many tech companies offer attractive compensation packages, including high salaries, flexible work schedules, and excellent benefits.
Thirdly, learning how to code can provide a sense of personal satisfaction and accomplishment. As a coder, you are constantly solving problems and overcoming obstacles. The sense of achievement that comes from overcoming a difficult coding challenge can be incredibly rewarding. Furthermore, as you build your coding skills, you will find that you are able to create more complex and sophisticated projects. This can be a great confidence booster and provide a sense of pride in your work.
Fourthly, coding is a great tool for collaboration and teamwork. As a coder, you will often work on projects with other developers, designers, and stakeholders. This provides an opportunity to develop teamwork and communication skills, which are valuable in any job. Additionally, working in a team allows you to learn from others and develop new skills that you may not have otherwise.
Fifthly, coding provides the opportunity to make a difference in the world. As a coder, you have the power to create solutions to real-world problems. Whether it's developing software for a non-profit organization or building an app to help people track their fitness goals, coding has the ability to make a positive impact on people's lives.
Finally, coding is a skill that can be learned at any age. With the abundance of resources available online, including coding tutorials, video courses, and coding bootcamps, it's never too late to start learning how to code. Whether you are a high school student, a college graduate, or a mid-career professional, there is no better time to start than now.
In conclusion, learning how to code is a fantastic decision that can provide numerous benefits. It offers the opportunity for creativity and innovation, job security, personal satisfaction, teamwork and collaboration, and the ability to make a difference in the world. As a self-taught software engineer, I can attest to the value of learning how to code and the opportunities it can bring. So why not give it a try? You never know where it might take you.

Something I miss from earlier eras of the creative side of the internet was things just being unabashedly low-budget. Just all unashamedly amateur, unprofessional, ‘I don’t own a good camera but I have a story to tell you’, ‘I can’t afford a good mic but I have a song to sing for you,’ ‘I don’t have any kind of background in editing or lighting and I only just picked up this guitar last Tuesday but here’s an entire musical me and my friends wrote about our favourite book, we filmed it on a potato and put it up on YouTube in ten minute segments because we thought it was pretty funny.’

I hate how ADHD has made just the act of eating difficult. My psychiatrist and doctors have told me that eating food is none-negotiable and a part of my medication, but it’s still hard to self-motivate. I have to struggle every day not to purposely starve myself. It’s gotten to the point where I won’t eat anything for a whole day and will feel fine and that’s bad. Or stomach growling feels good.

No bc Satoru has this whole hallucination-dream-limbo sequence where he’s talking to Suguru about how he wanted to give Sukuna his all to get through to him and show him how he understood his loneliness only to have Suguru go “…you’re making me jealous.”
Tumblr media
As an author, what Gege did here is genius because that is such a loaded statement to make in response to Satoru processing his fight with Sukuna. It can mean so many different things and we, the audience, are free to interpret exactly how Suguru meant it.
On one hand, you can say he said he was jealous because he wanted to be the one Satoru fought with all his might. He wanted to be as strong as Satoru, to match him in prowess, and hearing that Sukuna was the one to do it instead made him jealous.
On the other hand, you can say that he said he was jealous because Satoru recognized that Sukuna was lonely and wanted to get through to him, something that he was too late to recognize in Suguru when he was descending into madness, and that in turn made Suguru jealous because it was as if Satoru was saying “I recognized the loneliness in him and wanted to do something about it” when he failed to do that same thing with Suguru.
I personally interpret it the second way more (the first one is very valid, but I just see things the second way), because of the next lines.
Tumblr media
He made Suguru cry. While laughing. Once again, holy shit is that such a loaded scene. What did Suguru’s tears mean? We have never seen him cry before. Not when Riko died, not at any point when he was losing his mind, not even when he died by Satoru’s hand. So why, when Satoru said he wished Suguru was there to wish him luck before he fought, did he finally get brought to such strong emotion that he cried?
Was it because he was happy to hear that Satoru still thought of him, even in his final moments?
Was it because after all these years, Satoru never thought ill of him and pictured him there beside him, and he was relieved?
Was it because he regretted making the choices he did that led to him not being there by Satoru’s side?
Or, in a very indirect way, was it an admission of love from Satoru that made Suguru happy?
I wonder that, because of these panels from Chapter 238:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kashimo asked Sukuna, “if you’re so satisfied being alone, why did you refuse to die and turn yourself into cursed fingers?”
Sukuna’s response is, “Love is worthless. I’ve never needed anyone to satisfy me.”
Which is a directly opposing statement to the one that Satoru had just made to Suguru.
Sukuna: I only have to worry about myself and I get to do as I please. I am satisfied by myself. I don’t need love.
Satoru: I worried about everyone else my entire life and I was controlled by the society. I was not satisfied, but I would have been if you had been there with me, Suguru.
That. Is. Powerful. Those panels imply that love is what made Satoru weak. He did not feel complete because he didn’t have Suguru. He had all of the power in the world, he had status, he had students that depended on him, other friends even, and he still was not satisfied because Suguru wasn’t there.
Sukuna on the other hand recognized how detrimental love was because of what it did to people, how it made them weak, and he decided he didn’t need it.
Those panels were such an indirect-direct conversation between Satoru and Suguru.
Essentially, they were saying:
Suguru: You fought with all of your might and I wish that you recognized my loneliness so that I could have been there with you
Satoru: I was at the peak of my power and I had the weight of the world on my shoulders, and I was allowed to go all-out to fight yet I just wanted you to be there with me
It’s just. Ugh. They’re saying they want each other in the most infuriatingly roundabout way.

cannot stop thinking about that meta that’s like “voldemort’s ultimate goal was to simply destroy the british wizarding world” because it makes so much sense. tom riddle was a poor, orphaned, assumed muggleborn boy with a (most likely) ‘commoner’ accent and a distaste for humanity who sorted into slytherin, the hogwarts house infamous for being filled with loud rich bigots. tom riddle, with his background, could not have possibly been very popular those first few years of his schooling. tom riddle would’ve loathed the lot of them, all those arrogant, spoiled rich kids boasting about their family line. finding out he was the heir of slytherin would have been both a relief (he has something to fit in) and a jackpot (if they knew, they’d bow before him). and he uses that heritage later, when ‘tom riddle’ has disappeared and a stranger called ‘voldemort’ appears in his place. the fanatics literally kiss his feet.
voldemort is canonically a genius. he would’ve known that non-magical blood doesn’t make you dirty or less talented, because he himself is the prime example of that. espousing the bigoted pureblood agenda was simply the easiest way to gain power over the ones in power—all to send society crumbling to the ground from the inside. he takes over the ministry and ruins it, taking the first steps in tearing down the establishment; he kills regardless of blood, implying he doesn’t give one flying fuck what your heritage is; he tries to destroy the sorting hat, which would render the concept of ‘houses’ void.
personally i think it’s very interesting and appealing to put this interpretation in the context of tomarry/harrymort. i’ve always HC’d that harry will grow tired when he’s older, after he’s saved the wizarding world once (at the expense of his own happiness and well-being) and sees that nothing has changed or will change. that voldemort was a symptom, not the disease. that he and hermione and ron keep struggling, working themselves to the bone to make their world more fair and to suppress and eradicate the rampant underlying bigotry, but that it just won’t take.
and with an older harry, an embittered one, turned caustic and cynical by the very world he once viewed as his sanctuary—i don’t really think their beliefs would differ all that much. they’ve both seen and experienced the injustices. they’re both annoyed and disenchanted. harry will always have a regard for life, and voldemort won’t ever, but if anyone would have a wish to tear society down and build it back up again it’s them both.
